Frequently Asked Questions about Nurre Caxton

Q: Where is Nurre Caxton made?

A: Nurre Caxton mouldings are handcrafted all over the world, by European artisans, Brazilian woodworkers and American craftsmen. No matter where it is produced, every Nurre Caxton moulding is made with the utmost care and attention to quality.

Q: How often does Nurre Caxton release new collections?

A: Nurre Caxton is a boutique brand that launches new collections once or twice a year to provide the newest design options. Check out our just-released Rialto line, and watch for new collection launches coming soon!

Q: What lumber species are used for Nurre Caxton mouldings?

A: We primarily use finger-jointed pine and treated ayous to manufacture Nurre Caxton mouldings. The choice of species is based on the desired finished appearance. Pine is a fast-growing and widely available lumber but tends not to afford straight 8'-10' lengths. Finger joining uses selected sections of lumber to yield a strong and straight full-length stick. Finger joined pine offers excellent strength and stability and is generally used when the finish technique will mask the joins. For example, our Metropolitan range features a smooth trafila base that covers the finger joins and allows its silky black finish. Our Hygge range features real wood veneers that completely cover the finger joins for uninterrupted wood grain options. And our Castile range utilizes a layer of compo that not only masks the wood joins but also allows the creation of its elegant textured finish. One exception to this is our unique Woodworks range, where the joins and grain variations of finger-joined pine are an intentional component of the line's appearance. By contrast, treated ayous wood offers relatively lightweight and straight lengths, and can be used for assortments where the delicate wood grain of the lumber is a desired aesthetic. Nurre Caxton Palladio, Nocturne, Provence and Restorations are some examples of families produced with treated ayous, where the subtle wood grain is integral to the moulding's design aesthetic.  Our American Hardwoods range is produced using maple and ash, as indicated in the products' descriptions.

Q: What is the length of Nurre Caxton moulding sticks?

A: Nurre Caxton moulding sticks vary in length from 8' to 10'. Because wood is an organic material, it can exhibit flaws and knots. Our vendors conscientiously sort out flawed materials and provide us with optimized lengths of moulding. You pay only for the actual length of any given stick.
